Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Oct 16
The 2013 Barbaresco Montestefano is one of the more exotic wines I have tasted from La Ca' Nova. The late harvest produced a super-ripe, concentrated Barbaresco built on serious density. Red cherry jam, pomegranate, menthol, leather, tobacco and licorice all develop beautifully in the glass. The Montestefano is quite a bit riper and more overt than the Montefico, which, among other things, means it will drink better earlier.

Barbaresco

Barbaresco, a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known as the “Queen” of Piedmont wines, it offers elegance and aromatic complexity with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, roses, and earthy notes. Its well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity enhance its ageing potential. With calcareous soils and favourable microclimates, Barbaresco is a more approachable alternative to Barolo. Top producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Bruno Giacosa, and Pio Cesare, who exemplify its refined character.
